One out of the box!!
It was early success for us yesterday as Jack In The Box (4 units ew) defied recent form and rewarded betting support as he was backed into fav. Sat just behind the speed, and as we predicted, the push up to the 2040m was just the ticket, and when he moved into the lead ahead of the final bend, there was never going to be any other result as he cruised in under hands and heels at $3.80/$1.40…
Elsewhere, former Kiwi Bifrost (4 units ew) ran his usual laid-back race, bolting home for third at $2.00 the place. If they can induce any early pace into this fella, or get him out over further, he’ll win a lot more. Watching, as always…
Cool Encounter also ran third, the race reduced to seven after a scratching, so no official dividend, but you’d have got around $1.25 on NZTAB…
Eight for our TGIF this week, and some interesting runners from the book!
Eight’s enough for Friday…
June Bug
Riccarton Park Synthetic R7
Long time since her last win and she’s really struggling to find any semblance of form. Resumed from a four month spell 15 days ago, has placed twice on the AWT here and does sport a decent second-up record (4:2-1), but she’ll need all of that an more to figure here at $51…

Spring Valley
Rockhampton R4
She vaulted up to BM70 here 12 days ago, running a close third. Back to the BM58 will suit, and she’s more than capable of a decent finish, so she’s right in this as a $9.50 shot.

Such A Whit
Rockhampton R8
They’re getting their money’s worth out of this lad lately, he’s backing up from a win five days ago at Townsville and a fourth three days prior to that! This is harder of course, drops back to the 1300m, where he’s had success. Drawn the ace, so if he can position himself nicely, he can make the frame at a juicy $34. Trainer must be happy with him, so worth a small EW punt.

Auf Weidersehen
Moe R6
Two years since he went in the book with a last to first win, but apart from an odd placing, he’s been unable to add to that… He’s mostly not far away, but he’s been on all sorts of going, and racing from 1400m to 3296m, flat and hurdles… Back to BM58, which is where he won last but no idea of his pattern, or indeed his likelihood of winning this one! $13 shot, interest bet!

Tactfull
Moe R8
Resumed 18 days ago on the Pak synthetic from a five month break, and did not go well, fading from midfield to run next to last of 12. Generally thereabouts without winning too many (27:2-8), and again drops in grade for this to the BM52. Placed five from eight over the mile, has won on heavy and is placed three from five second up, but it’s the addition of Zac Spain that catches the eye in an open, and not particularly strong looking race, at $7.50
BET: Gonna say he’s ready for this, 5 units ew
Red Hawk
Moe R9
A career full of stop-starts, and both rides resuming this prep featured him slow out of the gates and steaming home for third and fourth. However, he disappointed badly next two, but he’s back to the BM52 here, has won on heavy and also at this distance, so no excuses today in an ordinary-looking field. It’s payback time baby, needs to jump well, but he can do this as $5.50 second fav.

Bourbon Road
Geelong R5
Former Kiwi who was trucking along nicely in NZ before heading over to Aus late last year. Three runs over there have been so-so, and he returns from a 249 day break here with Jamie Mott up top and some market support that has him $5 second fav.

Moscow Red
Geelong R7
Ten year old veteran mare who pops up in a place occasionally these days, as she did six weeks ago at big odds. Much prefers some give in the ground and she’ll be doing her best work late, $23 on offer…
