We couldn’t buy a placegetter at Timaru yesterday, despite two very much fancied runners in Penvose Lad and Infernape, did look as if the heavy going got the better of them…
However, we had a bit more luck in Aussie, where $23 outsider Markwell Dreamer ran a super, much-improved race, and was only nicked late…
In the other one, we fancied Shutter, up in distance and down in grade, to take out his race, and despite a bit of a betting drift, JPH extracted him from a tricky position to barge through a small gap and win as he liked in the end.
Five again from the book today, and some interesting roughies on offer…

Classy Irish mare who won second-up in Aus in September with a big finish. Came out a month later but surprisingly never emerged and ran last, maybe with an issue. Resumed from that six month break in April, catching the eye with a huge run from last to run second at big odds over the 1350, so the switch back to the mile next ticked a lot of boxes and she ran a close-up fourth. We were keen 25 days ago but she didn’t finish off, so the rise to 2060m today looks appealing, $9.50 on offer, Mallyon onboard, keep very safe!

Finished his October prep with three wins in a row, then resumed after 161 day spell running last in a BM78 at Eagle Farm before another spell. Back for another go after a couple of months, might need this, but too good to ignore, $8.50 shot.
