Bail out…
A tough watch for two of our fancied runners yesterday…
The Other Straand is a well-bred filly who ran very green on debut then repeated the dose yesterday. Keeping her safe for future runs, she’s been spruiked up and well-supported, so maybe needs a bit more experience.
La Pleine Lune took his customary leading role and we expected him to close the deal over the shorter distance but he faded badly at the turn, better than that…
So it remained for Famous Dain to bail us out at Albany, a well fancied favourite after two so-so sevenths and he didn’t disappoint, racing away to win by six lengths, more to come we feel…
Just the three for TGIF a well-placed second fav and a couple of value roughies…
TGIF three…
Chico Sonado
Geelong R5
Frontrunner who’s not shown much this prep, and has not been as prominent this time round… Only win was on debut, albeit a gritty on-pace victory at Sandown over two years ago. Steps up to 2240m for the first time today which could assist, as will the drop in grade, but needs to lift, $23 on offer.

Butternut Princess
Cranbourne R5
Went in the book just prior to Christmas with a super finish from dead last to run second, earning a next-time tag and here she is after a 139 day spell. Has trialled a couple of times and Z Spain is a nice booking, $3.20 second fav.

Jaykayann
Cranbourne R6
Consistent mare resuming from a 321 day break, no form first-up but has trialled. B Egan a good booking (5:2-1), does get back so watch late, might need the run but keep safe, $19 shot.
