40% return
Two winners, three seconds, a third and two fourths gave us a 40% return rate on yesterday’s tips…
Testify Me (3 units ew) got up for a fabulous win in the St Leger, beating fav The Underbelly by a nostril… $9.40/$2.50 was your reward for that, and we suggested exotics with the fav, which produced a $6.40 quinella, a $189 tri and a $665 first four!
But the biggest thrill of the day was watching an absolutely top ride from JMac on our old friend Democracy Manifest. Parked out the back, he produced the run of the day to get up and win, also by the narrowest of margins, paying $6.50/$2.50. Needless to say, we celebrated with a succulent Chinese meal!!
Aquilifer almost provided us with another winner but lost it in the Steward’s room, paying $2.40 the place. Enrico ($3.70), Mankayan ($2.10), Tabulam ($5.50) also ran places, with General Beau and Karman Line running fourths.
We’ve got ten from the book today, let’s have a look!
Sunday’s Top Ten!
PHORCYS
Yarra Valley, 1
He’s a noted late finisher and we’d hoped he’d be a touch handier over the longer 2100m at Benalla 26 days ago, but he dropped out to second last and steamed home when it was all but over, running less than two lengths from the winner in fifth and earning a next-time tag, and here it is. This is an open betting event, and he’ll be finishing fast again, so don’t discard him because he’s at $51, he’s a Hall of Famer in waiting…

ON MY PAT, WAILUA
Yarra Valley, 5
On My Pat provides today’s Nana bet, you know, the one your Nana picked because of the name, and it’s St Patrick’s Day, and my son’s name is Patrick, so the omen’s are good! On top of that, he’s been in the book for a while after producing some good runs mid-year last year before heading for the paddock. Thought he might need the resuming run 10 days ago and so it proved, but he gets J Mott up top, a positive booking, and if they get him closer in the run he’s a real chance in this at $7.50.
Wailua ($10 today) produced a big run from the back in a small field at Hanging Rock back in Jan to defy a betting drift and win for us at $4. These two will be trucking late…

JOLTIN’ JOE
Yarra Valley, 6
Back from a 78 day break and trialled up twice for a win and a second since. Back from city racing and at his fav distance, has form first-up and jockey has won before. $7 on offer, open race, he’s a shot in this…

EFFORTKAT, TYDEUS
Port Lincoln, 6
Effortkat sneaked up the fence for a nice win at Clare 7 days ago and draws the ace again here. Up in grade but she’s in fine form and loves the T&D and she can back up here as $4.60 fav. Tydeus spreads his wins out somewhat, hard to catch but ran third at the picnics three weeks ago. This looks a bit too tough for him, $17 on offer…

MISS MIDUKI
Alice Springs, 6
She’s been very consistent, especially around this track. Just faded late to run third here on resuming when trying to lead all the way and will strip fitter second-up, the drop back to 1000m will suit. Goes round here as $4.20 co-fav and will surely figure.

FANTASY EAGLE
Alice Springs, 8
Another who’s spent a lot of time at this track, and is a consistent placegetter. Jockey has plenty of success onboard, EW shot at $12.

MOMBASA, ALTERNO
Geraldton, 6
Mombasa won on debut then ran without much distinction before going for a break. Returned in Oct and has missed the frame once, so the penny has dropped for him this time in, and presents as a $5 shot after running third 24 days ago here and is a solid EW punt, especially with those T&D stats…
Alterno is simply not doing enough, $34 on offer, interest bet only…
