Today’s Tips – 3rd January 2022
Don’t know about you, but the days just melt into each other this time of year, and I find myself constantly checking what day it is…
Six from the book today, quite a lot for a Monday, let’s get some funds into the coffers… Box ’em up into a multi of your choice…
TE AROHA
Race 2: RIDGEVIEW CHIEF looked like he’s put the writing on the wall with a booming win at Matamata in September but has done very little to back that form up since… EW best in an open betting race, $8 at the mo.
BET: 3 units ew
Race 7: AVALENE impressed here on debut, grinding out a gutsy win over the 1400m. Stepped to stakes level in the Eulogy second up, and was in it a long way until fading late over the mile. Back in grade somewhat today, and rates a real chance to return to the winner’s circle today at $4, Opie the danger. RUM goes in the same race, got the oil on him a couple back after a nice third at Te Rapa, but he his front-running race pattern hasn’t done him any good since, maybe they’ll ride him from a bit further back today… one for exotics at $12…
BET: 6 unit win Avalene, 2 units ew on Rum if you’re feeling lucky…
GREYMOUTH/OMOTO
Race 5: I’M A TIGER is no Tigertiger, so he’ll need to pick up his game to pay a dividend here today. Back from a 4 month spell, and not a known first-up performer, he’s just been missing the frame in his last few. Gets Tina onboard today, which is a plus, bet a place looks best at $10.

SANDOWN
Race 5: Froggy rated ROMANIA in front for an all the way win two weeks back at Mornington, no mean feat over 2000m, and he cleared out easily to win by almost 5 lengths (see link). Watching the replay, you’d wonder why it took him seven goes to clear maidens. Jockey sticks today and obviously rises on grade, but based on that, he’s a show, and the rise to 2400m looks fine. You can find $10 on him at the moment, and I think that looks value…

Race 8: We’ve had an eye on COSMIC RHAPSODY since June with a fast-finishing second at Ballarat in this grade. Has been pretty consistent since, delivering us two wins and a placing, including a $6.50 result two weeks back at Bendigo under Yendall. Gets back in the run, so would like to see him a bit nearer the pace over the 1000m dash. Gets Olly today and looks value at around the $20 mark.
